backProprietary Software
Here is a list of proprietary software that I use.
back
- Quicken (Money Management)
- I've been using this since shortly after getting my first PC in 1993. I just use the basic version. I've upgraded a few times. I'm currently using Quicken Basic 98, although I did buy Quicken Deluxe 2000 when it had a rebate, but I haven't installed it yet. (It's 2006 now, so I wonder if I'll ever install it.) I only use it to balance the checkbook and track a budget. Not much can be done to improve on those two things so I never really need to upgrade. I don't use any of the new features. I plan to look at GnuCash and jGnash someday and maybe switch to one of them.
- Quicken Financial Planner (Retirement planning)
- A really great program for planning your financial retirement. Unfortunately this program is no longer available. Now I remember why I bought Quicken 2000 Deluxe, they moved the Financial Planner features into it.
- TurboTax (Income Tax Return)
- I've been using this since 2001. When it comes to computer software, this has to be the best $20 I spend each year.
- PSA-Cards (Address Book)
- This is a nice MS Windows application for managing addresses and phone numbers, and for generating mailing labels. Unfortunately they are out of business. I contacted the author and he has given me permission to share my copy with friends and family. Let me know if you'd like to give it a try.
- IVM Telephone Answering Attendant (Telephone Answering Machine)
- I finally got tired of coming home after work to find an occassional message that I really needed to get earlier. Rather than having to phone home to keep checking for messages on my standalone answering machine, this software will email the message as a sound file to my work email address. Isn't technology wonderful?
